Sprinter — For the 100 & 200 meter it looks to be all Enzo Oliverio (Hockinson) this season, as Sophomore he posted the 2nd fastest time in League. The only person to beat his time has now graduated and Enzo looks to separate himself from the pack. In the 400 meter the reigning CHAMP Deacon Dietz (Mark Morris) looks to repeat, last season him time was 2 seconds faster than any other runner in this event and for Track…well that’s pretty significant. Two laps around the track is the 800 meter and Timothy Bradshaw (Ridgefield) looks to bring it home but right on his tail Daniel Barna (Columbia River) wants to make up the 0.30 seconds that separated them last season. Speaking of Daniel Barna (Columbia River) looks to bring home the 1600 meter as he had the second-fastest time last season but the competition that bested him has now graduated. 9:58.33 was Samuel Grice (Washougal) best time last season as a Freshman in the 3200 meter. This year he looks to improve his time and bring home the gold as he has the fastest time of the returning athletes.
110 & 300 meter Hurdles looks to be Cole Logan (Woodland) season to sit upon the top of the podium with the seniors that bested him last year moving on. He brings in the fastest times for both events after taking the Silver in both last season.
Relays could be anyone’s for the taking as last season all teams very within a second or less of each other. Which team will put it all together and record the fastest time…we shall see!
Throwers – The top 4 in shotput/discus have all graduated last year, which means this season the top of the podium is WIDE open. That being said, Jakob Braunstein (Ridgefield) had the 5th best distance for Shotput and looks to seize the moment. For the Discus, Jaxon Cook (RA Long) had the next best throw behind all the seniors that are now gone.
Then there is the Javelin which Cody Wheeler (Hockinson) is primed to be the top thrower this season and add to his impressive athletic resume including his standout Football & Wrestling seasons.
Jumpers – In the High Jump Mateo Varona (Hudson’s Bay) & Nicholas Mounsavath (Fort Vancouver) tied with 5’8 being their respective PR’s this year the two will rival each other to see who can take it to the next level for the GOLD. Whereas in the Long Jump Mr. Deacon Dietz (Mark Morris) looks to repeat as he beat the entire field by a sizeable amount last year. The same can be said for Hewson Nguyen (RA Long) in the Triple Jump as he looks to bring home the gold AGAIN. Finally, the Pole Vault which Justin Nichols (Washougal), Eli Wenger (Columbia River), & Caeden Kelly (Woodland) all tied at 10’ 6” last year which earned them 4th place. This year they battle it out to see who will take home 1st.
This season will have MANY new faces atop the podium and many tiebreakers decided!
